Rachel Hawker and the Remedies

This year for media A2 we have to make a music video, our group( Alexandra Hobbs, Chloe Alldis and Madeleine Tester) and i have chosesen to use Rachel Hawker and the Remedies as our unsigned artist. The band consists of Rachel Hawker - Lead Vocals & Guitar, Kevin Rose - Lead Guitar & Backing Vocals, Lloyd Landeg - Bass Guitar and Chaz McLeod - Drums. This band is a typical indie band with a Genre of Pop/ Rock/ Soul. We decided to choose this band because we liked the lyrics of the song ( Just a taste ), it has the perfect lyrics to create a music video of performance/ narrative. It has a good rhythm and is perfect for our target audience. We also liked it because it reminds us of country pop singer Taylor Swift and she will be our inspiration throughout. The band is originally based in Brighton but they travel all over the country busking and trying to become more well known. You can see their busking video diary's on YouTube. They have created one album called (Dirty Little Secrets) which is where (Just a taste) one of the four songs on the album came from.

Lyrics Rachel Hawker and the Remedies (Just A Taste)

She lights up another cigarette,
Hopes that the smoke will mask her regret,
Sometimes it's best to forget,
She burns through another chapter in her life,
Just longing for an answer and a light and,
Friday night and she's practising her lines,
No valid reason, just passing the time,
She knows what she's got to say,
But can't find her voice,
Sometimes it's so hard to see that there's a choice,
That there's a choice,

So lace me with poison and feed me your lines,
I'm craving your toxins so spare me sometime,
I know I'm a dick, I'm addicted to you,
So give me just a taste,
Just a taste to see me though,

Now she's back home, she walks through her old school,
Blood, glass and needles surround the empty pool,
I don't know what to do she says 'How'd it end up like this?'
'How'd I end up like this?','Dont wanna be me, don't wanna be you,
Just wanna break free, just wanna break through!'
Then she looks up and she looks in the mirror and says,
'What the f***'s going on ?' Just wanna go back to bed with you,
I don't know what it is but I'm crying out for more,
I'm longing for the answer but I'm running for the door,
I'm running, I'm running, I'm running,

So lace me with poison and feed me your lines,
I'm craving your toxins so spare me sometime,
I know I'm a dick, I'm addicted to you,
So give me just a taste,
Just a taste to see me though,

So lace me with poison and feed me your lines,
I'm craving your toxins so spare me sometime,
I know I'm a dick, I'm addicted to you,
So give me just a taste,
Just a taste to see me though,
Just a taste to see me through,
Just a taste, just a taste,

Just a taste, Just a taste, Just a taste,
To see me through.

Research in our Gener

I have done a lot of research in our genre of music and the best artist that i have found that best fits with our chosen song is Taylor Swift. Her music is very similar to ours, it is county pop and uses a guitar very heavily. The videos are mainly narrative with a hint of performance. They are also very personal to Taylor and she tends to write about personal experience. The video 'Mine' is a personal love story about a break up and make up. The video focuses on past experiences of being a child and watching her parents break up and she feels she will go though the same thing. The video has lot of close up on photos hanging on a line in the trees and as the pictures are focused on, it relates to the lyrics. The video has been very carefully put together and its like a mini story almost. Taylor Swift has very precise videos, she knows what her audience likes and she delivers similar all the time. Her target audience is mainly females in the teenage bracket and this is why she try's to make her videos as relate able as she can. She try's to cover story's that younger people go though everyday so people find it easy to relate to her music videos.

Johnny Cash 'Hurt'

Johnny Cashes music video 'Hurt' is a very personal and meaningful video. Throughout the video we see images cutting in and out of Johnny's past, his family, his friends and his business. this video focuses very strongly on religion. With the religion side to the video it could be portrayed as positive or negative depending on the viewer, but i believe he was trying to show a more positive side it almost that her respects religion so much. He is trying to reminisce from his life and we see this throughout the music video, hence the religion, he wants to repent. We also see a shot of his museum (House Of Cash) with a closed sign, this symbolises that his life id slipping away also his records all smashed and the final shot of him closing the piano to show that's the end of his career and in fact that was the last song he ever wrote before he dies. His target audience would be the people who have grown up with him and love his music. His music videos have a lot of fast cuts, close ups and establishing shots to focus on the raw talent of his song writing and his life story.

Lyrics to Johnny Cash 'Hurt'
 hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
I am still right here

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

A2 Preliminary Task Class Project - Music Video

This was the first task that we did for the start of our A2 media course. This was a group task to get a feel for what a music video consists of. We had to copy the music video 'She and Him In The Sun' exactly to show we could make a music video together.

She and Him In the Sun 2010
Lyrics
It's hard to be ignored
When I look at you
You look so bored
My baby, my darling
I've been taking a beating

Well all right
(Well all right)
It's ok
(It's ok)
We all get the slip sometimes every day
I'll just keep it to myself
In the sun
In the sun

It's hard to take the blame
When I look at you, you're so ashamed
My baby, my darling
I've been thinking of leaving

Well all right
(Well all right)
It's ok
(It's ok)
We all get the slip sometimes every day
I'll just keep it to myself
In the sun
In the sun

Well all right
(Well all right)
It's ok
(It's ok)
We all feel ashamed sometimes every day
I'll just keep it to myself
In the sun
In the sun
